The Opportunity
Ulteig is seeking a Development Designer – Renewables to support utility‑scale solar and battery energy storage projects, with a focus on site design, grading, and layout development using Civil 3D and PVFarm. In this role, you will work at the front end of renewable energy projects, helping define site layouts and support early‑stage feasibility efforts that directly influence project direction. You will collaborate with engineers, multidisciplinary teams, and clients to develop practical, buildable solutions that move projects from concept into design and construction, all while working in a flexible environment with exposure to large‑scale projects across North America.
WhatYou'll Do
- Develop site layouts, grading plans, and early‑phase design packages using AutoCAD Civil 3D and PVFarm.
- Support utility‑scale renewable energy projects, including solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) sites.
- Evaluate site constraints, grading strategies, and layout options to support project feasibility.
- Work with engineers to refine designs from concept through early development deliverables.
- Perform grading design, earthwork calculations, and site design for large‑scale projects.
- Identify design challenges early and recommend practical, buildable solutions.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and electrical teams on multidisciplinary projects.
- Communicate with clients to refine layouts and support project development decisions.
Typical work includes site design, grading, and layout development in Civil 3D, and PVFarm working closely with engineers and project teams to move projects forward.
What We Expect from You- Associate or technical degree in Engineering Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in civil design, site development, or utility‑scale renewable projects.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D required.
- Experience with PVFarm or similar layout tools preferred.
- Experience with large‑scale grading, earthwork balancing, and site layout preferred.
- Experience supporting utility‑scale solar, wind, or battery storage projects preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams and with clients.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced consulting environment.
- Must be authorized to work permanently in the United States.

Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $38.00 - $51.50 Hourly Rate
