Job Description

The Physician Assistant (PA) provides expert clinical guidance in a specialized field and coordinates patient care quality initiatives. Provides service to patients in acute, short and long term care settings by assisting physicians, assessing patients, and treating injuries and ailments.
Responsibilities include:
- Obtaining a thorough medical history from patients and performing examinations and/or assessments to determine patient needs.
- Analyzing and interpreting information collected from patients, medical records, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop and establish appropriate diagnoses.
- Formulating treatment plans and prescribing medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized.
- Maintaining complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans and prognoses in a timely manner.
- Consulting with or referring patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice or expertise.
Qualifications include:
- Master’s or Baccalaureate degree (Associate’s or Nursing Degree if training prior to 1994).
- Successful completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors.
- Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services for at least 30 patients in the past twelve months or completion of an ARC-PA approved program in the past twelve months.
- Successful completion of the national certifying examination and current certification given by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances.
