This Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position is located at the Fargo VA Medical Center, VA Community Living Center (CLC), a 38 bed, long-term care unit where Veterans receive extended hospital care and short-term rehabilitation levels of care which includes help with activities of daily living, skilled nursing, hospice, and dementia care.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

* Provides essential health care, performing routine examinations and assessments, providing social and recreational activities, and providing assistance with activities of daily living.

* Observes, identifies, and responds to the patient's needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care, wound care, IV fluids/antibiotics, and end of life care.

* Monitors and reports changes in patient's condition to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Provider.

* Establishes constructive relationships with individual patients and their families to elicit feelings and attitudes, and to promote positive relationships, communication and socialization skills.

* Prepares, administers, and documents prescribed medication and/or prescribed treatment regimens as permitted by approved local facility policies and procedures.

* Assists in emergency situations and administers CPR as and when needed.

* Serves as a preceptor in collaboration with the RN and/or provider to appropriately orientate/train less experienced LPN/LVN and/or Nursing Assistants (NAs)/Health Technicians (HTs) in relation to acceptable standards of practice in promoting optimal patient care delivery.

* Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

Sunday-Saturday, Rotating day/night shifts (7:30 a.m.

-8 p.m., 7:30 a.m.

-4 p.m., 7:30 p.m.

-8 a.m. or 11:30 p.m.

-8 a.m.). Rotating holidays and weekends required.

Additional Pay:

* Shift Differential - 10% of basic pay for work performed during regularly scheduled hours between 6pm and 6am.

* Weekend Premium - 25% of basic pay for work performed between the hours of midnight Friday and midnight Sunday. This includes continuous service connected to work performed during these hours.

* Holiday Pay - 2 times basic hourly rate for regularly scheduled, non-overtime work on a designated holiday.

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Physical requirements:

This position requires some degree of fitness, strength, and agility. Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Working with patients requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, lifting arm overhead, and similar activities. You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position.
