Job Summary
The Distribution Center (DC) Operations Manager oversees daily operations, staff, and performance within the distribution center. This role leads and motivates warehouse teams to meet productivity, accuracy, and safety goals while ensuring compliance with company and OSHA standards. The manager is responsible for facility and equipment maintenance, monitors key performance metrics, and drives process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Works closely with internal branches and third-party logistics partners to resolve order fulfillment issues and ensure smooth operations.
Essential Functions
- Leads and manages all day-to-day operations, activities, and employees of the distribution center.
- Leads, trains, and motivates a team of warehouse associates and supervisors to achieve operational goals.
- Ensures operations supervisors manage their teams effectively and efficiently in order to optimize warehouse operations.
- Monitors performance metrics, including accuracy, productivity, and timeliness, and implements corrective actions when necessary.
- Responsible for the security and maintenance of the building and grounds so the property is neat, safe, and within Border States and government standards.
- Oversees the safety and maintenance of all warehouse equipment and vehicles in accordance with Border States and/or any government standards.
- Manages safety protocols and ensures compliance with OSHA standards and company safety guidelines.
- Develops and implements process improvements to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Works with branches and third-party logistics providers to resolve issues related to order fulfillment.
- Informs proper departments within the distribution center and Branch Support Center of "stock outs", inventory discrepancies, and other inventory problems or concerns.
Non-essential Functions
- Works closely with the Operations Support Manager to optimize warehouse management systems (WMS) and ensure system accuracy.
- Leads efforts to cross-train employees in various functions of the warehouse to maintain operational flexibility.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designate.
- Bachelor's degree in business or related degree or the equivalent in work experience.
- Prior management experience with a minimum of 5 years of prior warehouse distribution experience preferred with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of warehouse management systems and supply chain logistics preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English required.
- Must have a valid driver's license to operate company vehicles.
- Strong working knowledge of PC for Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), internet, email, and SAP software.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.
- Experience in the electrical supply industry is a plus.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively plan and organize.
- Excellent customer service skills including being competent, accurate, responsive, and engaged.
