Job Summary
Hourly employee assists with the receiving, processing, and shipping of dry edible beans. During harvest the employee is responsible for dumping trucks and taking appropriate samples. During processing the employee will assist with loading the finished product into rail cars, bulk trucks, 2000‑# totes, or bags (50–110 #), along with taking appropriate samples. The employee will also inspect samples and fill out proper documentation.
There is also housekeeping duty that needs to be performed daily.
- Assist with keeping the process running by ensuring dirty product is feeding the process, and handling the finished product by filling bulk trucks, rail cars, or packaging it.
- Analyze sample results, verify product quality and adherence to specifications, and determine adjustments needed to correct deviations.
- Observe and acknowledge all alarm warnings.
- Collect incoming and 100‑# samples and process the 100‑# finished product samples, recording the data per plant requirements.
- Troubleshoot problems by investigating and inspecting all process and machine malfunctions, and use mechanical skills to solve and eliminate process‑related problems.
- Report problems to the plant manager.
- Work safely to prevent on‑the‑job injuries by complying with all plant safety policies regarding hard hats, hearing protection, safety glasses, and other personal protective equipment.
- Communicate with personnel to ensure efficient coordination of the production process.
- Work as a member of the team, operating the process and loading finished product.
- Perform lock‑out/tag‑out procedures on various equipment such as motors, conveyors, and processing equipment.
- Adhere to all safety and process requirements.
- Locate sources of trouble through observation techniques such as sound, sight, touch, and smell.
- Control flow of product to the final destination (rail cars or bagging).
- Maintain awareness and adhere to all FDA, GMP, BATF, EPA, OSHA, and employer standards and guidelines.
- Suggest improvements in work methods and procedures by communicating with area leaders, other operators, or engineers.
- Attend departmental meetings to review and discuss production or other department and plant issues.
- Perform light maintenance on various department machines (bucket elevators, conveyors, drags, processing equipment).
- Inform the supervisor immediately of any hazards, unsafe equipment, or acts.
- Report immediately any accidents, injuries, or near misses to the supervisor.
- Recommend solutions to correct deficiencies or improve work and operational practices.
- Participate actively in training.
- Report to work in a condition to be able to perform all duties.
- Practice proper personal hygiene.
- Familiarize with the hazards in the work area and how to protect oneself.
- Understand that accidents are preventable and that safety is everyone's responsibility.
Ability to work overtime and weekends. Work from multiple height platforms. Work in high or low temperature extremes. Work in cramped positions frequently (boot pits, tunnels). Personal protective equipment required. Potentially slippery or wet conditions.
Physical requirements:
frequently move up to 10 lbs overhead, occasionally lift up to 55 lbs, stand 3–4 hours per 8‑hour shift, up to 8–10 hours during a 13‑hour shift. Move from area to area during shift. Sit 45 minutes at a time during various forklift tasks. Position oneself at various heights frequently. Ascend/descend stairs, ladders, and ramps. Position oneself around equipment frequently. Repetitive hand use. Work with vibrating equipment frequently.
Rotate body 45 degrees numerous times per day, especially for forklift activity.
