Job SummaryAnswers patient inquiries over the telephone, assessing the severity of the patient's symptoms and medical needs according to triage algorithms. Guides the patient to the appropriate level of care; schedules patient appointments over the phone with appropriate healthcare providers, facilities, or physicians. Documents information provided to patients during triage in health record systems; records patients' health conditions for follow‑up patient care.
Maintains and develops triage protocols; ensures patients' healthcare information is updated on time. Role does answer inquiries through multiple variations of technology, depending on department. Educates patients based on calls that come in.
Job Duties
- Receives referral and triages the referral appropriately.
- Utilizes protocols and policies to prioritize referrals.
- Seeks recommendation from the physicians regarding cases.
- Provides guidance to educator nurse with questions related to the case.
- Able to work in both triage and educator role.
Hours:
Monday - Friday (4 days) 08:30 am - 5 pm
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program preferred, including but not limited to AACN, ACEN, and NLN CNEA.
- Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred.
- One year of healthcare experience preferred.
- Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possesses multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
- Nurses performing nursing practice over the telephone require licensure in the states where the patients being served reside.
- Within the first 30 days of employment, all requirements to obtain the license needed for the role are completed.
- Obtains and subsequently maintains required department‑specific competencies and certifications.
