Department DetailsOur Oncology unit specializes in the care of oncology patients, including hematology and bone marrow transplant. This floor is a great place to refine your assessment skills and become educated in the fast paced evolving science of cancer treatment and management. Nurses who select oncology have the opportunity to care for a group of medically complex patients with rare disorders and cancers.
There are ongoing educational opportunities with world class physicians to promote professional development of nurses. Nurses have the ability to grow into oncology certified nurses, chemotherapy trained and/or bone marrow transplant certified. This is a great place for nurses with a passion for patient connection and individualized care.

SummaryThe Registered Nurse in the Clinical Care Leader (CCL) role facilitates health care services for patients in cooperation with the health care team. Facilitates communication and provision of information and messages in a way that produces clarity and impact. Understands the importance of inter-team collaboration in breaking down silos and achieving business results and the ability to lead employees from various functions to communicate, coordinate work across divisions, and collaborate in solving problems as one team.
Applies the concept of collaboration to build relationships and coordinate with other teams. Provides feedback to members of the health care team.
Responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients. Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care. Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting. Cares for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move along the continuum of care.
Responsible for the coordination of care, patient assessment, patient education, triage, and various other nursing interventions. Functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
Competent in the registered nurse (RN) skills of the unit/department. Knowledge of procedures and programs to ensure employee safety. Assumes leadership role in high-risk situations. Coordinates the clinical/unit nursing activities while adhering to Sanford Health philosophy, goals, and standards of care. Acknowledges their impact on budget and finance through staffing and ensuring safe patient care. The CCL uses critical thinking skills to collaborate and coordinate patient care and manage emergent situations, for the specific assigned clinical setting.
Responsible to intervene when unsafe practices are identified. Responsible to make patient assignments based on employee's competencies, scope of practice, experience and patient's unique needs. Demonstrates effective communication skills to negotiate and resolve conflicts with and between peers, inter-professional colleagues, patients and families.
