Duties of the Registered Nurse
- Inpatient Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurse include, but are not limited to:
- Actively engages and collaborates with providers and the interdisciplinary team for coordination of wound care across settings, discharge planning, and follow up care needs.
- Serves as chair for the Pressure Injury Committee. Additionally provides backup support to the outpatient Wound Ostomy Care Nurse
- Serves as a resource and consultant for the facility pressure injury programming and associated performance measures. This includes wound care services through wound rounds, consultation, and follow up for inpatient and CLC Veterans.
- Conducts the review of pressure injury data and analyzes to identify trends to direct education and improvement activities and accurately reports and documents pressure injury and wound care services.
- Participates in the selection and recommendations of products related to wounds, ostomies and continence.
- Provides training to staff and the identified skin champions to ensure ongoing sustainment and support for a robust wound program. Participates in education and training of all facility disciplines regarding the prevention and management of pressure injuries.
- Adheres to the specific Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse Practice Protocol.
- Maintains competencies for the inpatient and outpatient care settings to provide safe quality and efficient wound care services for the organization.
- Assesses and identifies educational needs for nursing and ancillary staff in regards to wound, ostomy and continence.
