Position: Research Assistant Professor (Dry Bean Genomicist)
DRY BEAN GENOMOCIST POSITION.

Description & Details:

This is a 12-month, non-tenure-track faculty role in the Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University (NDSU), with a 100% research appointment as a Research Assistant Professor. The selected candidate will lead and oversee the dry bean genomics project y will be expected to focus on genetic and genomic approaches to elucidate the genomic architecture of common bean and other closely related legume species and to apply this knowledge to develop tools for genomics-assisted breeding to improve the crop in close collaboration with the dry bean breeding team.

The program may emphasize techniques such as fine mapping and gene characterization, gene introgression, functional genomics, and analysis of bean genomic diversity through pan-genome construction and sequence alignment of multiple representative genomes to discover and characterize novel/unique genetic variation.

The candidate will join a team of scientists dedicated to improving germplasm and developing cultivars, with expertise spanning breeding and genetics, disease resistance, and field production. The individual is expected to collaborate and share research results with the scientific community through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international scientific conferences. They may also be asked to present at grower meetings and field days.

Additional duties include advising graduate students and collaborating with other faculty members.

Hiring Range:

Required Qualifications:

* A Ph.D. in genetics, genomics, or a related field, with proven experience in the genetics and genomics of dry bean.

* A solid understanding of both new and established tools for modern genomics and plant breeding.

* Experience processing and analyzing DNA, RNA-Seq, and Pac Bio sequencing data on remote high-performance computing (HPC) clusters, sequence assembly and analysis.

* Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with clients, colleagues, and scientists.

* Excellent oral and written English communication skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Expertise in integrated molecular breeding of field crops and in germplasm improvement.

* Experience in plant pathology and/or related fields.

* Experience designing and analyzing laboratory and greenhouse studies using advanced statistical methods.

* An understanding of bioinformatics; and experience in grant writing.
