This is a part-time or temporary non-benefited position.

Description & Details:

The Insect Systematics Lab at North Dakota State University is seeking a temporary (part to fulltime) lab and field worker to assist in surveying, collection and preparation of insect specimens.

The Research worker will split time between weekly pollinator collections with our field crew in the Sheyenne National Grasslands and lab work at NDSU.

Field tasks will include:

* Net collection targeting bees (Hymenoptera: Apiformes) and hoverflies (Diptera: Syrphidae)

* Collection of samples from insect traps

* Maintenance of field equipment

Lab tasks will include:

* Pinning, pointing, and labeling bee and fly specimens from the Sheyenne Grasslands and from statewide insect trapping surveys

* Laboratory upkeep and maintenance

Necessary skills will be taught.

Work Schedule:

Up to 40 hours/week

Starting date: 5/1/26 - negotiable

Ending date: 8/31/26 - negotiable

Advertised Pay:

$16/hour

Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education background: ideally with courses in the biological sciences

Experience:

Ideally experience with biological field surveys

Required qualifications:

* Must be able to work efficiently and independently on lab tasks and as a team in the field

* Ability to work safely in the field during long days of hiking on occasionally uneven terrain, and collect live insects

Preferred Qualifications:

(Ultimately, these skills can be taught on the job!)

* Experience with basic insect identification

* Experience with insect specimen preparation
