Digital Agronomist

aerialPLOT is a web-based software solution for agricultural research and on-farm evaluations. Our platform automates the extraction of data from aerial imagery at operational scale, cutting reliance on manual labor and subjectivity. We give researchers and seed/biologicals companies a portal to analyze, manage, and share plot-level data in real time across the growing season, helping them learn more from every trip to the field.

This role sits on our core analytics team in Fargo, working directly with client trial data inside the aerialPLOT platform. You'll set up trial designs, process and QC imagery‑derived data, interpret field maps, and translate raw geospatial outputs into agronomic insights clients can act on. Some drone flight and field support is part of the job, but this is primarily a platform and analysis role, not a field‑first one.

You'll work closely with our internal drone pilot network and client success team to make sure trial data is accurate, timely, and useful.

Travel up to 50% during peak season for trial setup, field checks, and client support. During the rest of the year, the role is desk‑based, making sense of what the drones bring back.

• Experience with small plot research trials—trial design, plot layout, data collection, or analysis
• Strong background in agronomy, soil science, plant science, or crop research
• Comfort reading and interpreting field maps and translating them into structured data
• Ability to work with large, sometimes messy or incomplete geospatial datasets
• Experience with aerial imagery or remote sensing a plus, not required
• Excellent communication skills—explaining technical findings to agronomists and non‑technical clients
• Desired: familiarity with GIS software, Python or R, and database concepts
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, Soil Science, Environmental Science, or related field

• Set up and QC trial designs within the aerialPLOT platform
• Interpret UAV‑collected field maps and translate them into agronomic data and insights
• Support client success by answering data and trial‑design questions
• Collect UAV imagery as needed to support the team (drone pilots handle the bulk of this)
• Within the first month of employment, take and pass the FAA Part 107 Knowledge Exam and obtain a Remote Pilot Rating for UAS commercial operations—training and exam paid for
• Travel up to 50% during peak season, including overnight stays, walking uneven/rough field terrain, and lifting up to 50 lbs
• Work with incomplete or imperfect spatiotemporal datasets and figure out practical solutions
• Collaborate with local and global teams on trial design and analysis
• Must be 21+, hold a valid US driver’s license, and maintain a clean driving record (background check required)
• Comfortable working independently and managing multiple deliverables with limited guidance in a dispersed team
