Student ENT Laboratory

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only NDSU students are eligible to be hired in this position. Unsolicited applications to this posting will NOT be considered.

Description & Details:

We are seeking motivated student technicians to assist with projects involving sugarbeet pest management. The students will work as part of a team to:
1) rear insect colonies,
2) grow/maintain sugarbeet plants in greenhouse,
3) assist graduate students in data collection in the laboratory and greenhouse,
4) enter data into shared spreadsheets,
5) maintain an up-to-date lab notebook,
6) learn how to analyze plant volatile samples using GC-MS and Chem Station software, and
7) maintain lab cleanliness and chemical inventory. The students will also complete appropriate chemical safety and insect containment trainings. The selected students will be taught entomology- and chemistry-based techniques by USDA scientists.

Work Schedule:

10-20 hrs/week, between 7 AM - 4 PM Monday through Friday. Specific schedules are made around students' class commitments.

Advertised Pay:

$18/hour

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Agricultural Sciences, Animal Sciences, Botany, Crop & Weed Science, Horticulture, Microbiology, or Natural Resource Management major. Student must be comfortable working with insects and have a valid drivers license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficient in Excel, is detail oriented, comfortable with asking for help or clarifying questions, and able to work independently.
