The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND invites applications for a Research Specialist position available to conduct applied and molecular plant pathology research on plant pathogens. The individual will
1) perform research activities on dry bean and pulse crop diseases including data collection, analysis, and publication,
2) coordinate smooth and efficient operations in laboratory, greenhouse, and field experiments,
3) work sometimes independently, sometimes cooperatively with other staff, faculty and agricultural professionals, and maintain an up-to-date inventory of seed, pathogen isolates, research supplies, and other resources in the program,
4) communicate and cooperate with public and private sector stakeholders.

We are looking for candidates who work diligently, approach scientific problems with curiosity and sometimes with a bit of a 'Mac Gyver' attitude.

Work Schedule:

8am - 5 pm

Hiring Range: $40,000-$54,000+/DOE

Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.

Minimum Qualifications:

* The position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology, Plant Sciences, Microbiology, Biology, or a closely related discipline;

* experience working with plant pathogens and plant diseases;

* experience with basic molecular techniques, such as PCR, DNA extraction;

* experience to work under sterile conditions,

* ability to communicate effectively;

* ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

* experience working with fungal and bacterial diseases,

* experience with greenhouse inoculation techniques of various pathogens,

* experience with lab management and employee supervision;

* experience with statistical analysis
