Job Description
The Lead Rebuild Technician oversees and works alongside a traveling crew that rebuilds, repairs, and services air seeding equipment throughout the Midwest. This hands‑on role combines field leadership, mechanical expertise, and project coordination to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards. The position requires extensive travel Monday through Friday, with crews typically returning to Fargo by Thursday whenever possible.
Responsibilities- Lead and supervise a crew of technicians on rebuild and repair projects at customer locations across the Midwest.
- Coordinate daily work assignments and allocate tasks to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Disassemble, inspect, rebuild, and reassemble air seeding equipment in the field and in shop environments.
- Diagnose mechanical issues, identify root causes, and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Repair or replace defective components using hand tools, power tools, cutting tools, and other shop equipment.
- Test equipment operation after repair and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper performance and reliability.
- Train, mentor, and support technicians to build skills, promote teamwork, and reinforce accountability within the crew.
- Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area at job sites and in the shop.
- Communicate project updates, challenges, progress, and material or parts needs to management in a timely manner.
- Assist with planning, logistics, and jobsite coordination, including travel arrangements, equipment readiness, and scheduling.
- Represent the company professionally at customer locations and maintain strong working relationships with customers.
- Meet at the Fargo shop on Monday mornings and travel with the crew in a company vehicle to job sites throughout the region.
- Adhere to travel schedules that typically require overnight stays Monday through Thursday or Friday, depending on project needs.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience repairing, rebuilding, or maintaining agricultural, industrial, or heavy equipment.
- Hands‑on experience with mechanical systems, including troubleshooting and repair processes.
- Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, cutting tools, and other equipment commonly used in mechanical repair.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical issues and implement effective repair solutions in the field.
- Demonstrated ability to lead crews or teams, with prior experience as a lead technician, foreman, or crew lead preferred.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions independently while on job sites.
- High attention to detail and the strong commitment to quality workmanship.
- Self‑motivation and the ability to lead and support a team with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively across multiple states.
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to work in tight spaces, underneath equipment, and in various weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform physically demanding work throughout the day.
Skills & Qualifications
- Previous leadership experience in roles such as foreman, lead technician, or crew lead.
- Experience working with agricultural equipment, particularly air seeding or similar systems.
- Field service experience involving travel to customer locations for installation, service, or repair.
- Familiarity with basic electrical systems related to equipment service and repair.
- Experience with hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
- Comfort working outdoors in farm fields and in farm shop environments.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with management, customers, and team members.
