Job Description

Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd is an Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community controlled organisation currently seeking to fill the following vacancy within our Child, Youth and Family Support Services division. The Kalwun Child, Youth and Family Support Services division administers the Family Wellbeing Service, Family Participation Program, Early Learning Program and the Kinship and Foster Care programs within the South East Qld region.

* This is an identified position, applicants must be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person *

Are you looking for more than “just a job”? Do you want to be part of a team that makes a real difference in the lives of children, young people, and families?
At Kalwun, culture is at the heart of everything we do. As the first point of contact for our Child, Youth & Families Services, you will not only provide a warm welcome and professional support but also help create a culturally safe space where families feel valued and respected.

Why this role is different

  • As the first point of contact, you will be the friendly face and voice that greets families, community members, and partners — setting the tone for their experience with us.
  • You will work in an organisation deeply connected to culture, community, and caring for jarjums (children).
  • You will be part of a passionate team delivering programs that support safety, wellbeing, and stronger futures for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families.
  • You will learn and grow in an environment where cultural ways of knowing, being, and doing are valued equally with professional skills.

Position Duties

  • Greet clients, families, and visitors in a welcoming, culturally appropriate, and professional manner.
  • Managing meeting room bookings and visitor logs.
  • Keeping the reception area clean and organised to create a professional, calm, confidential and welcoming environment.
  • Respond to enquiries in person, by phone, and via email — providing general information or referring to the appropriate staff member or service.
  • Assist walk-ins with completing intake or referral forms and guide them through processes.
  • Monitor office supplies (stationery, forms, brochures) and arrange replenishments.
  • Support staff by photocopying/scanning documents and collating information as required.
  • Support staff with logistics for workshops and community events (room bookings, catering, resources).
  • Coordinate use of meeting rooms and waiting areas.

What we are looking for

  • Welcoming and approachable attitude — you enjoy helping people feel comfortable.
  • Effective communication and organisational skills.
  • Basic administration and computer skills.
  • Most importantly — a passion for being part of something bigger: supporting children, families, and community.

What we offer

We offer a chance to be part of a respected Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisation, where culture, community, and care come first. You get the opportunity to make a difference every single day, whilst receiving ongoing professional development and cultural learning opportunities. If you want to work somewhere where your role matters — where every smile, phone call, and conversation makes a difference — we would love to hear from you.

  • Competitive salary of $55,000 per annum plus super
  • Salary sacrifice of $15,000 per annum which can significantly increase your take home pay
  • Company that is focused on improving the health and wellbeing of our community
  • Five weeks of annual leave per year
  • Additional paid personal leave

Additional Information

  • This position requires the successful applicant to satisfy a national criminal history check and hold a current drivers' license.
  • A Blue Card for working with children is a mandatory requirement. The 'No Card No Start' law applies to this position - a Blue Card must be obtained prior to commencement.
  • As this is a risk-assessed role under the Child Protection Act 1999, the successful applicant will be required to obtain a LCS2 clearance within 3 months of commencing employment.
  • * IDENTIFIED POSITION - To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. A Confirmation of Aboriginality will need to be provided.

Apply today with a CV and covering letter and be part of something bigger: strong families, strong culture, strong futures.
