The Transportation Coordinator plans, coordinates, and supports safe, reliable student transportation services for the district. The position works closely with parents and guardians, transportation service providers, school principals, and district leadership to ensure transportation operations align with district priorities and service expectations. The Transportation Coordinator represents the district and the Superintendent in all transportation-related matters and is responsible for maintaining professionalism, sound judgment, and consistency in decision-making.
The Transportation Coordinator proactively seeks to understand the ideas, opinions, and skills of others while providing safe and efficient transportation services for all students.
Responsibilities Coordinating and Monitoring Transportation SystemsPriority:

Examples of this work include:
- Collaborates with transportation vendors and district leadership to develop, adjust, and monitor bus routes, schedules, and stops.
- Maintains routing software to develop accurate route maps for drivers, schools, learners, and families in accordance with District policy.
- Ensures each bus stop is in the safest location practicable.
- Maintains regular communication with transportation vendors to ensure efficient day-to-day operations and proactively addresses issues.
- Coordinates with Student Support Services to provide reasonable, safe, and prudent transportation services in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE).
- Manages transportation needs for all District programming including regular education, special education, field trips, activities, foster care, placement, homeless services, and grant-funded programs.
- Assesses transportation incidents, complaints, or accidents, keeping district leadership informed, and recommending necessary corrective actions and follow-up with needed communication.
- Continuously evaluates transportation services and recommends operational or efficiency improvements.
- Works collaboratively with district leadership to recommend school delays, closures, or temporary route suspensions due to weather or driver shortages and provides public communication as needed.

- Responds to and resolves transportation concerns raised by parent/guardians, learners, or district and school leadership.
- Assists parents or guardians in identifying the appropriate transportation options for their child.
- Establishes and maintains positive public relations and a customer service focused approach with all transportation stakeholders.

Examples of this work include:
- Leads monthly transportation meetings with bus vendor and district leadership, developing agendas in advance based on identified needs and concerns from stakeholders.
- Develops and maintains positive and effective working relationships with learners and staff.
- Researches transportation issues and concerns, recommends solutions, and when necessary, rides bus routes to verify concerns.
- Collaborates with district leadership on boundary change proposals by using routing software to generate maps and analyze the student demographic impact of proposed changes.

- Works proactively with the Business Department to develop and maintain the transportation budget.
- Prepares and provides reports on transportation activities, expenditures, learner counts, and mileage breakdowns.
- Oversees the transportation contract with the bus vendor and monitors compliance.
- Submits all transportation state reports accurately and on time.
- Ensures compliance with federal and state rules and regulations and district policies as they relate to transportation.
- Ensures bus safety training is completed each fall for elementary K-2 students.
- Bachelor Degree or 3 years of experience in a related field.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Demonstrated experience working independently.
- Bachelor's degree in business information or transportation logistics.
- 3 or more years' experience in school related transportation operations.
