A dedicated logistics resource responsible for effectively managing and growing the operations of inbound logistics to drive income results. Effectively manages carrier base to ensure competitive costs, service level and capacity. Conducts analysis of work-related situations and makes decisions in an effective and timely manner. Solves freight problems and deals with a variety of variables in situations where some standardization exists.
Manages administrative support duties to include but not limited to data and transaction entries into Transportation Management Systems (TMS), billing functions, reporting, presentations. Effectively communicates and interacts with cross functional departments. Functions as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company.
- Operates logistics programs within budgetary guidelines and financial controls utilizing appropriate GL allocations.
- Manages delivery initiatives and methods which meet company, vendor and customer needs. Develops delivery strategies which are cost-effective and meet freight rate, scheduling and time requirements.
- Manage internal and external communications within opco and external entities as needed. Effectively communicates through written and verbal mediums.
- Work to negotiate lowest freight costs without reducing service level. Identify and implements backhaul opportunities to optimize fleet utilization.
- Manage contract carrier movements and related processes. Monitor accepted loads and verify loads are delivered on time.
- Interpret and manipulate complex sets of geographic mapping, financial and numerical data.
- Manage and analyze department reports to identify needed adjustments to drive efficiencies, i.e. financial reports, pipeline opportunity reporting, vendor profiles, etc. Manage all claims, vendor chargebacks and overages/shortages/damages (OS&D) with appropriate department and/or external entity. Manages pallets, claims and accessory charges/expenses.
- Manage carriers’ freight bills to insure they agree with carriers’ confirmations and invoice opco for freight moves.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- 5–7 years' experience in logistics and/or transportation required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, AS400, and Transportation Management Systems (TMS); advanced system skills preferred.
- Experience in food service distribution and freight operations preferred.
- Associate degree in business, logistics, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex data and resolve issues involving multiple variables.
- Demonstrated ability to act as a primary point of contact, maintaining a high level of professionalism while collaborating with cross-functional teams, value‑chain partners, and management to coordinate activities and drive results.
