Youth Recreation Leaders will assist in planning, leading and supervising activities for youth between the ages of 3-12 years old. Leaders will create a safe and fun learning environment for the children enrolled in the program while following program procedures and guidelines. Youth Recreation Leaders are expected to be enthusiastic, helpful, dependable, friendly and prepared to work in an active environment.
EssentialDuties and Responsibilities:
- Attend trainings and staff meetings. Provide input at these meetings.
- Be dressed and groomed in a clean and neat manner following the dress code policy.
- Assist in planning a variety of age appropriate activities for the children.
- Organize, lead, and supervise the games and projects. Staff will be expected to actively participate in the games.
- Be resourceful. When planning activities, staff are encouraged to use materials that are already provided. If more supplies are needed, a specific request must be submitted to supervisor a week in advance.
- Assist in creating and dispersing promotional materials.
- You will be scheduled to arrive to your site 15-30 minutes before the program begins. During that time, complete the programming protocols established by your supervisor.
- Take daily attendance. Collect all necessary information for drop-in patrons.
- Together staff will create safety and behavior expectations which need to be posted at all program sites along with verbal reminders to participants.
- Review roster notes and participant information sheets prior to starting a new program session. Know who has the authority to pick up the children, be aware of allergies, medication requests and behavior management plans. If paperwork is incomplete, request the parent/guardian complete forms before they leave the program site.
- Know and understand the emergency procedures and respond promptly to emergency situations.
- Report any missing or damaged equipment to the supervisors on same day. Report any on-site hazards immediately to the supervisors.
- File an Incident Report form on all incidents and work related injuries. Submit report to YRC within 24 hours.
- Perform light cleaning duties inside and outside of the program site.
- Assist in planning, preparation and leading of special events.
- If you must be absent from your scheduled work shift, you must notify and be excused by your supervisor. Staff are expected to find their own appropriate subs.
- At the conclusion of a program, complete an evaluation based on personal observations. Indicate strengths and improvements needed for the program.
- Ask for donations from local businesses in order to support our summer special event programs.
- Fulfill any other duties as assigned to you by your supervisors.
- Must be a minimum of 15 years of age.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification is preferred. Staff must also be able to attend such trainings if not currently certified.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in indoor and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, and moderately loud when in the program setting.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT PROCESS
The City of Faribault conducts a thorough pre-employment process for incumbents joining the organization. This process may include professional reference checks, employment verification, assessment testing, criminal history check, and driver’s check (must have valid Driver’s License and excellent driving record). All final candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of all pre-employment results before their first day of employment.
