Overview
The Community Center Front Desk Attendant creates and maintains a cheerful, professional, and helpful environment while serving community members and guests. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service, following all building and program procedures, and assisting with facility operations during assigned shifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Be prepared and at the front desk when patrons arrive.
- Greet patrons in a friendly and professional manner.
- Answer phones using courteous telephone manners and strong customer service skills. Example greeting: “Community Center, this is ________. How may I help you?”
- Answer questions accurately and honestly; if unsure, inform the patron you will pass the message along to the appropriate staff member.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe front desk area at all times.
- Stay informed on current programs, schedules, and special events using posted materials and information resources.
- Follow all emergency procedures and respond promptly to any emergency situation.
- Contact a supervisor and/or call 911 when necessary and assist to the best of your ability.
- Perform light cleaning duties and assist with evening cleaning responsibilities.
- Conduct routine facility walk-throughs, including checking locker rooms or common areas as assigned.
- Report any missing, damaged, or unsafe equipment or conditions to supervisors.
- Dress and groom in a clean and neat manner in accordance with the established dress code.
- Work a variety of hours between 5:15 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The Front Desk Attendant should possess the following qualities: enthusiasm, helpfulness, friendliness, dependability, and professionalism. Must be able to work well with a wide variety of people and remain calm and effective in emergency situations. This position may be responsible for assisting with emergencies and securing the facility when full-time staff are not on duty.
Typical Qualifications- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Must be a responsible individual capable of calmly assisting during emergency situations in a thorough and professional manner.
- Strong communication and customer service skills required.
Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in indoor conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, and moderately loud when in the program setting.
