The position provides substitute paraprofessional academic classroom instruction or student management aide support at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind. Under general supervision, contributes to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs to blind/visually impaired students. Provides educational instruction and uses a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.
Minimum Qualifications- At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota) through an accredited institution of higher education; or
- An associate’s or higher degree; or
- A passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Para educator) demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics or readiness for each.
- Knowledge of multi-challenged/blind/visually impaired students and educational practices
- Experience working with blind/visually impaired students in an educational setting
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and to sit, stand and walk throughout a workday
- Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months
