Faribault Community Education is seeking a full-time College and Career Navigator to oversee students enrolled in a variety of programs with the Faribault Public Schools. This position is on a 230-day contract and requires flexibility in scheduling based on student availability and includes one or two evenings per week based on student and program needs.
Faribault Public Schools is seeking a College and Career Navigator to support youth and adult learners in achieving their postsecondary, career, and personal goals. This position plays a key role in aligning the district's Grow Your Own (GYO) initiatives with RISE navigation and Adult Education programming.
The Navigator provides culturally responsive, one-on-one, and small-group guidance to students and adults pursuing careers in education and other high-demand fields. This year-round position is grant funded and requires flexibility in scheduling based on student and program needs. Typical hours are 8 am - 4:30 pm, but requires flexibility.
Essential Functions:- Provide individualized and ongoing college, career, and academic navigation to students and adults in the Grow Your Own and RISE programs.
- Guide and educate all students, including first-generation college students, through the full process of exploring, applying, and enrolling in postsecondary programs.
- Assist participants with postsecondary applications, financial aid, and scholarship paperwork as needed.
- Support adult learners in navigating credentialing, licensure, and certification programs.
- Develop individualized learning and employment plans with participants.
- Facilitate study sessions, workshops, and goal-setting meetings.
- Complete biweekly navigation meetings with secondary students and adult teaching fellows in the Future Faribault Teachers Grow Your Own program.
- Lead Future Teacher Clubs at Faribault Middle School and Faribault High School.
- Assist potential candidates with fellowship applications.
- Arrange group college visits to Minnesota postsecondary institutions for students interested in education careers.
- Plan and facilitate career exploration events and financial literacy workshops.
- Build and maintain relationships with employers, colleges, and community partners to support career placement and wraparound services.
- Recruit, train, and support the Mentor Teachers working with Grow Your Own candidates in various Faribault programs.
- Distribute outreach materials for students, families, and staff.
- Ensure accurate data entry, tracking, and reporting in accordance with grant requirements.
- Collaborate with the GYO Coordinator to align student and adult pathways and share program data and success metrics.
- Participate in professional development and local, regional, and statewide meetings related to navigation, workforce development, and adult education.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all learners.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust with diverse populations.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals in education, career development, or case management.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferably in the fields of social work or counseling.
- Experience working with diverse populations and communities, including multilingual and first-generation students.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish and/or Somali preferred.
- Experience in academic advising, navigation, social work, or community outreach strongly preferred.
Salary: $52,670 annually. This position is contracted for the school year and will be prorated based on start date. This is a grant funded position, with funding secured until at least 2030. Faribault Public Schools provides a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. Benefits as outlined in the Nonunion Directors and Coordinators Employment Agreement.
