Science Teacher - Middle School
A full-time (1.0 FTE) Science teacher at Faribault Middle School. The position will teach middle school science and Forensics exploratory science courses. The ideal candidate will create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students are challenged and empowered to learn and grow. This position will commence with the school year.
Key responsibilities include:
- Teaching essential employment skills, including professional communication and collaboration.
- Managing instructional supplies and curriculum implementation
Essential Functions:
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences in a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies; maximizes time on task.
- Creates a classroom environment that responds to the needs of individual learners.
- Plans and implements a program of study designed to meet individual students' needs.
- Recognizes learning problems and makes referrals as appropriate.
- Encourages student enthusiasm for the learning process and the development of good study habits.
- Adheres to health and safety policies, including using precautions of safety and health plans.
- Communicates with parents in a timely manner; maintains positive and constructive communication with students, staff, parents, and community.
- Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques.
- Shares responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school.
- Protects students, equipment, materials, and facilities by taking necessary and reasonable precautions.
- Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.
- Works cooperatively with parents and other staff members to reinforce the educational program for each child.
- Attends workshops, seminars, and conferences as well as staff, department, curricular development, and committee meetings and staff-development sessions as required.
- Encourages and facilitates the work of other staff members in a collaborative, supportive environment.
- Evaluates the accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods; provides progress and interim reports for feedback.
- Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics and state and federal laws.
- Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory, and is willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of the school's curriculum.
- Support and follow School Board policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of AVID strategies is a plus.
- Must be able to build strong, positive relationships with families and students.
- Must be able to recognize Minnesota Science Standards and how to build standards-based lessons.
- Should be comfortable using 1:1 technology and maintaining a positive, professional culture in accordance with School Board policies.
Licensure:
Current License by the State of Minnesota in one or more of the following: 5-8 General Science or 9-12 license, with a willingness to obtain a middle school license.
