MSAD Special Teacher‑Intermittent Overview

Intermittent substitute teacher for the MN State Academy for the Deaf,  school year. The schedule follows the school calendar and may include a 3‑week summer program in July.

• Serve as a substitute teacher in the classroom for deaf/hard‑of‑hearing students.
• Under general supervision, design and deliver academic instructional programs for deaf/hard‑of‑hearing or deaf/blind students.
• Provide educational instruction and use a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.

• Valid Minnesota teaching license – at minimum a Short Call Substitute License.
• Knowledge of deaf/hard‑of‑hearing and deaf/blind students and educational practices.
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL); positions at the Academy require ASL skills and candidates will be assessed for signing skills prior to hire.
• Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand written policies, procedures, education plans, and to maintain records and documentation.
• Human‑relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide instruction to students.

• Experience working with deaf/hard‑of‑hearing students.
• A valid MN DHH license.
• Demonstration of advanced sign skills.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and be able to sit, stand and walk throughout the workday.

• Employment contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months.
