Applications received in response to this announcement will be used to fill Intermittent Human Services Technician (HST) vacancies at the MN State Academy for the Blind  (MSAB) for the  school year.

The work schedule follows the school calendar and may include 3 weeks in July for the summer school program.

Applicants submitting resumes to this announcement will be in a pool of candidates considered throughout the school year. You will be called in on an as needed basis to fill behind current MSA employees. This position is not eligible for benefits.

+ This position provides substitute dormitory instruction or student management aide support at MSAB.

+ Under general supervision, contributes to the design and delivery of instructional programs to blind/visually impaired students.

+ Provides educational instruction and uses a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.

** Minimum Qualifications*
* + A passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Para educator) demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics or readiness for each OR the ability to pass the Parapro or Para educator assessment within the first 6 months of hire.

+ Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dormitory setting as a caregiver.

+ Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand and follow directions and to maintain records and documentation.

+ Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide direction to residential students.

** Preferred Qualifications*
* + Previous experience/background working with blind/visually impaired students.

** Physical Requirements*
* + Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance.

+ Must be able to walk/stand for at least eight hours.

** Additional Requirements*
* + Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months
