Position Summary

MSAD Residential Educator‑Intermittent (Human Services Technician) – Intermittent coverage during the 2026–2027 school year. Provide substitute dormitory instruction or student‑management aide support at the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf.

Work Schedule

Evening or overnight shift, Sunday‑Thursday. Work follows the school calendar and may include three weeks in July for the summer school program. The incumbent is called in on an as‑needed basis to fill vacancies and is not eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver substitute dormitory instruction and student‑management aide support.
  • Assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics, or readiness.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of instructional programs for deaf/hard‑of‑hearing or deaf/blind students.
  • Use educational instruction techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Passing score on a valid, reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Par educator) demonstrating knowledge/ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics, or readiness, or ability to pass the assessment within the first six months of hire.
  • Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dormitory or similar caregiver setting.
  • Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand directions and maintain records.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in conversational sign language (to be assessed prior to hire).
  • Human‑relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with residential students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced ASL skills.
  • Previous experience or background working with deaf/hard‑of‑hearing students.
  • Knowledge in therapeutic intervention, first aid/CPR.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance.
  • Must be able to walk or stand for at least eight hours.
Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check within the past 12 months.
