Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher

Cannon Valley Special Education Cooperative is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher to support the STEP (Secondary Transition Education Program) for the  school year. This position will provide instruction and support to students ages 1822 as they develop skills needed for life after high school, including employment, independent living, community participation, functional academics, and self-advocacy. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of educators, educational assistants, families, and community partners to implement individualized programming and support student growth.

This long-term substitute opportunity offers the ability to make a meaningful impact while becoming familiar with CVSEC's programs and practices. Candidates may be considered for future permanent employment opportunities within the cooperative based on staffing needs, qualifications, and performance.

Continuous improvement of instructional practices enhances student and family engagement and creates the conditions for student success.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to meet students' unique learning needs, goals, and accommodations.
  • Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects and functional life skills using evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum to support diverse learning styles and developmental levels.
  • Utilize behavior management strategies, including positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques, to support student success.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, independence, and social-emotional growth.
  • Collaborate with teachers, mental health professionals, educational assistants, and support staff to implement IEP goals and interventions effectively.
  • Monitor student progress through data collection, ongoing observations, and formative assessments, adjusting instruction as needed.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on student progress, behavior, and individualized support strategies.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and district policies regarding special education documentation, assessments, and reporting.
  • Participate in professional development and training to stay current on best practices in special education.

Qualifications

Valid Minnesota Special Education Teaching License, DCD, ASD, or ABS or the ability to become licensed Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Current valid teaching license in another subject area and willing to get an out-of-field license If not currently licensed, willing and eligible to apply for and receive a Tier 1 or 2 Teaching License in DCD, ASD, or ABS.

Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is based on the CVSEC Master Agreement, with a range of $54,332- $98,697. Your initial placement depends on your qualifications, including education and years of experience.
