Job Summary

The work you'll do is more than just a job. This position is a Substitute Paraprofessional (Intermittent) at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind, where you will provide substitute paraprofessional academic classroom instruction or student‑management aide support on an as‑needed basis.

The position is not benefit‑eligible.

Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, contribute to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs for blind/visually impaired students, providing educational instruction and using a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota) through an accredited institution of higher education, or an associate’s or higher degree, or a passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Para educator) demonstrating knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics, or readiness.
  • Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dormitory setting as a caregiver.
  • Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand written policies, procedures, and education plans and to maintain records and documentation.
  • Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide instruction to students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of multi‑challenged/blind/visually impaired students and educational practices.
  • Experience working with blind/visually impaired students in an educational setting.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and to be able to sit, stand, and walk throughout a workday.

  • Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months.
