The Science Laboratory Assistant will support Chemistry, Physics, and Biology teachers in the effective conduct of practical classes by preparing laboratory materials, maintaining equipment, ensuring safety protocols, and assisting students during experiments. The role is essential in creating a safe, organized, and engaging laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Support
Assist science teachers during Chemistry, Physics, and Biology practical classes.
Prepare apparatus, chemicals, specimens, and teaching aids before lab sessions.
Set up and dismantle laboratory equipment as per experiment requirements.
Support students during experiments under teacher supervision.
Lab Maintenance & Safety
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and hygiene of all science laboratories.
Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of chemicals and biological specimens.
Follow and enforce laboratory safety rules and standard operating procedures.
Assist in disposal of chemical and biological waste as per safety norms.
Maintain safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and eye-wash stations.
Inventory & Records
Maintain inventory of lab equipment, chemicals, glassware, and consumables.
Report damaged or missing equipment to the Lab In-charge or HOD.
Assist in stock verification and requisition of laboratory materials.
Maintain lab registers, experiment records, and usage logs.
General Assistance
Assist in setting up labs for examinations, inspections, and audits.
Support science exhibitions, projects, and inter-school competitions.
Help teachers with demonstrations and practical assessments.
Ensure compliance with CBSE/ICSE laboratory guidelines (as applicable).
Qualifications & Skills
Educational Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology or related field)
OR
Lab Assistant certification with relevant experience
Experience –
1 year Required as a lab assistant in a school or educational institution (preferred)
Skills & Competencies
Basic knowledge of Chemistry, Physics, and Biology laboratory procedures
Familiarity with laboratory equipment and safety practices
Good organizational and record-keeping skills
Ability to follow instructions and work under teacher supervision
Basic computer skills for record maintenance (preferred)
Responsible, disciplined, and student-friendly attitude
