Agency – Initially 3–4 months (with potential extension)
Pay Rates: £25 umbrella an hour (£19 PAYE an hour)
About the Role
Oxfordshire County Council is recruiting an experienced Family Help Practitioner to support the Families First Test and Learn Pilot running in the South of the county. One agency practitioner will be recruited into each of the Didcot and Abingdon Family Help Teams for the duration of the pilot.
The Family Help Practitioner provides timely, purposeful support and interventions to vulnerable children, young people, and their families. The role focuses on addressing safeguarding concerns, reducing risk, and improving outcomes, while promoting children’s welfare and family resilience.
This post sits within the Family Help Team, part of the Family Solutions Service (Children’s Services), and is based at the Abingdon Children & Family Centre.
Key Responsibilities
Work directly with children, young people, and families to address safeguarding concerns and identified needs
Deliver targeted interventions to reduce risk and support positive outcomes
Build strong, professional relationships with families and partner agencies
Contribute to multi-agency plans and reviews
Maintain accurate, timely case recording and planning
Promote child-centred, strengths-based practice aligned with Families First principles
Working Arrangements
Practitioners must be working within the Vale of White Horse area at least 3 days per week, due to the direct nature of family work
Recording, planning, and admin can be completed from home, the Abingdon office, or any Oxfordshire County Council building
All team members are required to attend the Abingdon office every Wednesday morning, which alternates between team meetings and peer supervision
About You
You will be:
An experienced practitioner with a background in family support, early help, or children’s services
Confident in direct work with families where safeguarding and risk are present
Comfortable working in a multi-agency environment
Organised, reflective, and committed to improving outcomes for children and young people
