Job Description

The Incoming Quality Technician (IQA) is responsible for performing detailed inspections of incoming materials including printed circuit boards (PCBs), PCB substrates, mechanical components, and electrical parts to ensure conformance to engineering specifications and quality standards. This role operates in a lab-based inspection environment, requiring hands-on experience with precision metrology tools, microscopes, electrical test equipment and inspection equipment. The IQA Technician is responsible for identifying defects, performing dimensional verification, documenting results, and supporting containment of nonconforming materials.

The position works closely with Quality Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Manufacturing teams to ensure incoming materials meet requirements and support overall product quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform incoming inspection of PCBs, PCB substrates, mechanical parts, and electrical components using defined procedures, drawings, and specifications.
  • Conduct visual inspections for defects such as scratches, cracks, delamination, corrosion, voids, contamination, and cosmetic nonconformances, including tombstone SMT part conditions, cold solder joints, excess/insufficient solder, bridged, cold, cracked and disturbed solder connections;
    Solder icicles and spikes, lifted pads, land damage, conductor damage (nicks, cuts, or thinning).
  • Use microscopy (low and high magnification) to inspect fine features such as bonding pads, traces, vias, and surface defects such as Annular ring breakout, delamination/blistering, over/under etching, via plating voids and PCB warping; component misalignment, solder balls and splatter.
  • Perform mechanical and dimensional inspections using calibrated measurement tools and compare results to engineering drawings and tolerances.
  • Verify incoming documentation including Certificates of Conformance (CoC), inspection reports, and drawings to ensure traceability and compliance.
  • Capture and document inspection results and defect images, ensuring proper data storage and traceability.
  • Perform incoming inspection of wafer fab materials, including but not limited to:
    Incoming wafers, PCB substrates, and critical components.
  • Identify and elevate nonconforming materials, initiating documentation such as NCMRs and coordinating with Quality Engineers for disposition.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying recurring defects and contributing to quality feedback loops.
Preferred Qualifications & Experiences
  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
    Associate degree or technical certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in incoming inspection, quality inspection, or similar role in electronics, semiconductor, or high-precision manufacturing.
  • Experience inspecting PCBs, substrates, and/or precision mechanical components strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom or laboratory environment preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience working as an electronic technician or technician assistant.
