Crew Leader - Streets

Overview

Target Hiring Range: $24.83 - $27.59

The purpose of this position is to supervise, lead, and direct a small crew in the Public Works - Streets division by performing essentially more complex work as directed, including overseeing work quality, training, instructing and scheduling work.

• Coordinate and schedule activities of assigned crew; enforce department rules, policies and special orders; provide advice on work methods and procedures, and train subordinates.
• Work with assigned crew to assure proper workmanship and materials are used. Perform work, operate machinery and equipment as needed, and ensure safety of crew.
• Ensure that proper equipment and materials are available and safe; inspect equipment and perform preventative maintenance; make minor repairs and adjustments; complete service requests and work orders and maintain records.
• Maintain inventory and maintenance records; initiate purchase requisitions for supplies and equipment; prepare and maintain records as requested.
• Depending on the Division: assist in Traffic operations when assigned.
• Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
• Three years of street maintenance and drainage experience is required.
• Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, and must pass a DOT-regulated drug/alcohol test and FMCSA Clearinghouse background check process.
• Work includes leading workers, overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work.
• Work may involve providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships; require consideration of different points of view to reach agreement and persuasion to gain cooperation.
• This position follows established SOPs and policies; performance is reviewed periodically; requires analytical judgment and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to read and write at an intermediate level; perform calculations and prepare reports with proper format and grammar.

• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays as needed.

• Valid Class B commercial driver s license with a good driving record is required; maintaining it while employed.
• Work Zone Safety certification and Flagging in the Work Zone certification preferred.

Work involves extreme exposure to disagreeable elements and extreme weather. Involves continuous outdoor work with frequent exposure to poor weather conditions. Physical demands include frequent lifting of heavy objects weighing 50 lbs. Continuous physical exertion, requiring heavy muscular effort with fatigue of arms, back or sensory faculties. Sufficient physical stamina to walk a majority of the workday. Extensive bending, stooping, and climbing.
