Description

Summary:

The applicant would be the organization’s expert in diagnosing complex challenges, eliminating variation, and driving high‑impact solutions using structured methodologies such as Six Sigma and Red‑X methodolgies. This role blends analytical rigor, contrast‑based reasoning, and cross‑functional leadership to turn ambiguity into clarity and stalled initiatives into measurable improvement. The core purpose of this role is to deliver rapid, high‑confidence problem resolution by applying Six Sigma and/or Red‑X methodologies to identify root causes, reduce variation, and implement sustainable solutions that improve performance, quality, and reliability.

Applicant would be required to work closely with the manufacturing facilities to identify high‑impact problems and improve performance while monitoring effectiveness and cost savings of the projects.

Essential Functions
  • Advanced Problem Diagnosis — Use Six Sigma tools (DMAIC, statistical analysis, capability studies) and/or Red‑X logic (BOB/WOW, Multi‑Vari, Component Search) to isolate dominant root causes with precision.
  • Structured Solution Design — Develop solution paths grounded in data, contrast analysis, and designed experiments; evaluate tradeoffs and recommend the most effective corrective actions.
  • Variation Reduction — Apply Six Sigma and/or Red‑X techniques to reduce process variation, eliminate defects, and stabilize systems.
  • Decision Acceleration — Facilitate alignment among Astemo leadership by presenting clear, evidence‑based findings and solution options.
  • Execution Leadership — Translate solutions into actionable plans with defined owners, timelines, and control mechanisms; ensure improvements are sustained through control plans, mistake‑proofing, and monitoring.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration — Partner with engineering, operations, quality, supply chain, and leadership teams to gather insights, validate hypotheses, and implement solutions.
  • Risk Anticipation — Identify potential failure modes early using FMEA, statistical signals, and contrast‑based logic; design mitigation strategies before issues escalates.
  • Continuous Improvement Enablement — Build repeatable frameworks, coach teams in structured problem solving, and elevate organizational capability in Six Sigma and/or Red‑X methods.
Qualifications
  • Six Sigma Expertise — Proficiency in DMAIC, statistical analysis, hypothesis testing, regression, DOE, and control planning.
  • Red‑X Mastery — Skilled in contrast‑based root‑cause isolation, Multi‑Vari studies, component swapping, and progressive elimination.
  • Analytical Depth — Ability to interpret complex data sets, identify patterns, and validate causal relationships.
  • Communication Excellence — Converts technical findings into clear, concise insights for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Facilitation & Influence — Guides teams through structured problem solving, builds consensus, and drives action without formal authority.
  • Travel — Must be willing to travel to support internal company needs (frequency up to 50%).

Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required as are strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with PCs and application software, such as MS Office tools is also required.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree with 3 – 5 years Engineering or Manufacturing related with a preference to Quality focus

Experience

Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in automotive industry problem solving

  • Demonstrated success solving complex, high‑impact problems using Six Sigma and/or Red‑X methodologies.
  • Experience in engineering, manufacturing, operations, and quality.
  • Certification such as Six Sigma Black Belt, or Red‑X Master preferred.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis capabilities, including statistical software proficiency.

Job level determined by various factors such as organization size, responsibility, career stage, and capabilities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Leading and mentoring the efforts of Astemo Engineers and manufacturing site leadership who are responsible for sub‑project activities.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Travel

Up to 50% domestic and international travel may be required. Travel may include visiting customers, suppliers, and Astemo manufacturing sites in the Americas region.
