Job Description & How to Apply Below

Join a tight‑knit, highly collaborative engineering team as we expand Showa into performance automotive off‑road
. As an Engineering Intern, you’ll help the team with hands‑on builds, test support, and basic design/documentation tasks that keep programs moving. Expect to learn quickly, contribute meaningfully, and roll up your sleeves to help the team finish on compressed timelines. We maintain a consistent Showa design language and brand standard across our hardware and communications. You’ll learn how this translates into design details (tactile feel, finishes, markings), test methods, and clear documentation so that the Showa experience looks, feels, and performs like one unified standard of excellence.

How we work: We move fast, share context, and pivot without ego. Decisions are data‑driven-inform by testing, analytics, and field feedback-and we maintain disciplined documentation so we can learn quickly.

What You’ll Do (Core Responsibilities)
  • Prototype & Lab Support: Assist with subassembly builds, shock dyno setups, fixture prep, and basic measurements.
  • Test Support & Data Handling: Help prepare test requests, set up instrumentation, log results, and organize files; analyze results.
  • CAD & Drawings (basic): Make simple part models, redline drawings, update dimensions and notes under engineer guidance; export files as needed.
  • Documentation: Update BOMs, parts lists, and build notes; maintain version control of test plans, photos, and results; help with ECR/ECO drafting and routing.
  • Supplier & Parts Coordination: Track prototype parts, organize inventory, label samples, and support receiving inspections (visual checks, basic measurements).
  • Shop Safety & 5S: Keep benches, carts, and storage areas orderly; follow safety procedures and PPE requirements; flag issues early to keep the team safe and on schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Actively pursuing a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or related field such as Automotive, Manufacturing, or Mechatronics).
  • Comfortable with hand tools and basic measurement (calipers, micrometers); able to follow lab and shop safety protocols.
  • Basic CAD exposure (Solid Works, catia) and familiarity with 2D drawings (dimensions, tolerances, title blocks).
  • Proficient with Excel/Google Sheets for data logging and simple charts; willingness to learn simple data workflows.
  • Clear written and verbal communication;
    organized and detail‑oriented
    .
  • Able to lift up to ~40 lb, stand for lab tasks, and support occasional early/late test windows.
Highly Recommended
  • Formula SAE (or Baja SAE) experience-design, manufacturing, testing, or data roles (telemetry, vehicle dynamics, driveline, suspension).
  • This background maps directly to our hands‑on, fast‑iteration environment.
Nice to Have (Optional)
  • Intro GD&T awareness; basic tolerance stack‑up exposure.
  • Basic FEA coursework or lab experience.
  • Experience with shock dyno
, four‑post/MTS rigs, or general vehicle testing (school project or internship).
  • Familiarity with documentation control (revisioning, file naming, release notes).
What You’ll Learn
  • How performance shock components are designed, built, and tested-from bench to vehicle
    .
  • How disciplined documentation (BOMs, test plans, change logs) speeds iteration without losing control.
  • How the Showa design language informs hardware details, user touch points, and visual standards.
  • How a small team collaborates with suppliers, test labs, and partner teams to hit tight milestones.
  • How to translate data into decisions
-closing the loop quickly and cleanly.
Working Norms & Culture
  • Help the team: Jump in where needed; communicate early; close loops.
  • Adaptability: Comfort with context switching between CAD, lab work, data, and supplier follow‑ups.
  • Data‑driven: Test, measure, and document. Use results to decide the next iteration.
  • Safety & Quality: Follow procedures, use PPE, and protect the build, the data, and each other.
  • Positive, respectful, and coachable: Ask questions, seek feedback, and share what you learn.
Logistics
  • Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of the co‑op.
  • Schedule: Full‑time summer schedule; occasional early/late test days may occur.
