AS is seeking an Intermediate Level Controls & Instrumentation Engineer to support projects ranging from small studies to multi-million dollar turnkey supply. The role requires team orientation, organization, clear communication across levels, and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. You will work with a team of engineering and business professionals to deliver projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
Responsibilities- Develop hardware assembly and wiring diagrams for control and data acquisition systems.
- Develop control system software designs including control of temperature, pressure, humidity, flow, force, motion of mechanisms, system safety, and other advanced process and electromechanical systems.
- Develop control system software in PLC ladder logic, function block, and HMI programming.
- Develop interfaces to facility equipment using hardwired interfaces and industrial networks.
- Apply closed-loop control methods (classical and modern) to control continuously variable systems.
- Provide quality system processes such as checking the work of others, following standard procedures, and ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
- Support hardware assembly and fabrication.
- Provide on-site team direction of facility startup, checkout, and commissioning activities, domestically and abroad.
- Communicate with clients and management regarding project status.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and departments to ensure project success.
- Estimate design, material, installation, checkout, commissioning, and activation of projects.
- Plan labor resources and schedule project milestones to ensure completion within technical scope, budget, and client schedule.
- Develop proposals to capture future work with current clients and new markets.
- Lead control and data acquisition projects through all phases: design, fabrication, implementation, testing, and commissioning.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in control or data acquisition system design, implementation, and commissioning.
- Professional Engineer registration in good standing is a plus.
- Experience as software developer in a high-level environment (C/C++/C#) or with engineering tools such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, and SIMULINK/SIMSCAPE.
- Experience developing PLC and HMI software in major environments (e.g., Rockwell Studio 5000, SIEMENS TIA Portal, Emerson PC ME) with working knowledge of other environments.
- Experience selecting, specifying, and procuring process instrumentation and actuation hardware, control and data acquisition system hardware, PLCs, drive and motion systems, automation network hardware, interconnect cabling, and supporting equipment.
- Strong math background for data uncertainty calculations, digital filter algorithms, control transfer function realizations, and process simulation.
- Ability to lead single- and multi-discipline engineering teams to deliver technically successful control and data systems.
- Ability to train, encourage, and mentor junior colleagues.
- Desire to develop ingenious alternative approaches and drive innovation during all project phases.
- Note:
U.S. Citizenship is required. - Office, lab, or indoor construction-site environments (>80%); fieldwork at times (10%–20%).
- Travel to customer sites for meetings, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting (>30%).
- Basic PPE and safety requirements; exposure to high temperature variations, electrical circuits up to 480 VAC, and high noise levels may occur.
