Position Summary
The Paralegal will work closely with attorneys and support staff to manage case files, prepare documents, conduct legal research, and coordinate deadlines across multiple practice areas. This is a full‑time, in‑office position in Farmington Hills, Michigan, with opportunities for professional growth within a respected, long‑standing firm.
Key Responsibilities- Assist attorneys in preparing and organizing pleadings, motions, affidavits, discovery materials, contracts, deeds, closing documents, wills, trusts, and other client‑specific legal forms.
- Conduct factual and legal research using statutes, case law, and secondary resources and prepare concise summaries or memoranda for attorney review.
- Maintain and update case files, client files, and matter databases, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and timely calendaring of deadlines, hearings, and closing dates.
- Coordinate with clients, courts, opposing counsel, title companies, closing agents, and other professionals to obtain and/or provide documents, correspondence, and updates.
- Prepare and assist with real estate closings, probate and estate‑planning submissions, family‑law filings, and general civil litigation dockets, including e‑filing where applicable.
- Draft and proofread correspondence, notices, affidavits, discovery responses, and other routine documents under the supervision of an attorney.
- Support attorneys in trial and hearing preparation, including organizing exhibits, depositions, and trial notebooks as needed.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or a related field; completion of an accredited paralegal program or equivalent experience is required.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a law firm or legal setting; experience in real estate, estate planning/probate, family law, or general civil litigation is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Michigan procedural rules, court systems, and common legal software (e.g., Westlaw/Lexis, Microsoft 365, practice management software).
- Strong organizational, time‑management, and multi‑tasking skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines across different practice areas.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a professional demeanor when interacting with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all ethical and professional standards.
- Familiarity with real estate closings, title work, and related documentation.
- Experience supporting estate‑planning and probate matters, including drafting wills, trusts, and probate filings.
- Comfort working in a general‑practice environment with attorneys who specialize in multiple areas.
