Job Description
The Big Task:
Apprentice Install Plumbers here at Thornton & Grooms is tasked with providing top level service and installation of all residential plumbing fixtures and repairs while adhering to all local plumbing safety codes, quality standards, workmanship, and proper operation of the equipment.
- Jetting - high-pressure water used to cut tree roots and debris from inside the drain
- Liners - creates a pipe inside a pipe to fix fractures and breaks (in place of a full excavation)
- Coatings - resin fixing the pipe from the inside
- Floor Breaks - jackhammer existing concrete to expose the defective underground pipe and make repairs, pouring back concrete
- Final Fixture and Equipment Install - larger job that takes two or more people (tankless install, re-pipes, water filtration, backup sump pump, stacks, larger water heaters or doubles)
- Excavation - moving earth with large machinery to expose pipe and repair or replace, replacing earth-only up to 10 feet anything more is subcontracted out to one of two companies we specifically work with
- Apprentices will work around loud noises such as air compressors, tools, jackhammers, and other equipment
- Willingness to work in an environment with things such as dirt, gravel, mud, and dust
- This role will have exposure to confined spaces, including and not limited to crawl spaces, attics, and basements
- Become proficient in the usage of Service Titan, T&G’s mobile dispatch/point of sale program, within the first 30 days
- Properly identify plumbing parts and tools commonly used
- Register for plumbing apprentice card through the state of Michigan
- Understand job scopes of what is needed to perform the work
- Hands on in the installation of plumbing systems
Skills & Experience:
0-2 years minimum in the trade, willingness for on-the-job training
Mechanical aptitude
High school diploma or GED
Requirements:Ability to pass prescreening requirements:
Clear 9-panel drug test, background check, and a clean motor vehicle report for the past three years

This position requires the ability to lift at least 80 pounds repeatedly up and down stairs various times a day. The ability to use hand tools to cut off sewer caps, use of plumbing tools, ability to enter crawl spaces, basements, attics, and go on roofs is needed. Must have command of senses, sight, hearing, touch. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business with customers.
