Fiserv is a global leader in fintech and payments, helping move money and information quickly, reliably, and securely a Software Database Engineer, you will be a hands‑on technical leader responsible for designing, building, modernizing, and operating business‑critical platforms. You will update an IBM DB2 database in addition to creating software across a mixed technology stack (modern distributed and legacy/mainframe) and partner with product and technology stakeholders to deliver reliable functional programs for our clients.
SoftwareDatabase Engineer What You Will Do Engineering Leadership & Delivery
- Create solutions and design and implement across a multi‑language stack (C#, .NET, C++, Assembler, COBOL), ensuring secure, maintainable, and high‑performing solutions.
- Drive delivery in an Agile environment (Scrum/Kanban), contributing to story definition, estimation, sprint planning, daily execution, demos, and retrospectives.
- Translate product requirements into technical designs; identify dependencies, tradeoffs, risks, and phased delivery plans.
- Set and reinforce engineering standards through code reviews, design reviews, documentation, and automated quality practices.
- Create tables and update existing data structures for yourself and teammates.
- Foster strong craftsmanship, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate across multiple technical and product teams (engineering, QA, architecture, infrastructure, security, and product management) to align priorities and deliver integrated outcomes.
- Embed cyber security practices into day‑to‑day engineering: perform threat modeling as appropriate, remediate vulnerabilities, and partner with security teams on risk reviews and secure design decisions.
- Champion secure coding principles and addressing findings from code scanning and reviews.
- Participate in PCI DSS and SOC audit compliance activities as needed, including supporting evidence collection, control validation, remediation tracking, and audit/assessment inquiries.
- Support production operations as needed: troubleshoot incidents, perform root‑cause analysis, implement fixes, and drive preventive improvements and automation.
- Create and implement database update to solve essential client issues.
- Use Git Lab to manage source control and CI/CD workflows, including merge requests, branching strategies, pipeline health, and automated quality/security checks.
- Track and execute delivery work in Jira and maintain clear technical documentation in Confluence (designs, runbooks, decision records), enabling transparency and repeatable operations.
- Support operational and access‑management workflows using Service Now and SailPoint, including incident/change requests, access provisioning reviews, and timely approvals aligned to audit requirements.
- Review and update IBM DB2 and IBM AIX environments.
- Significant experience in software engineering with demonstrated technical leadership for enterprise systems.
- Expertise in SQL.
- Hands‑on expertise in IBM DB2 databases and IBM AIX OS.
- Hands‑on expertise developing and supporting applications using C#/.NET.
- Proven ability to design, debug, and optimize complex systems with strong understanding of performance, reliability, and operational readiness.
- Experience delivering in an Agile environment and partnering effectively with product owners and cross‑functional teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts, influence decisions, and drive alignment across stakeholders.
- Ability to participate in technical production support and incident response as business needs require.
- Experience modernizing legacy systems (including mainframe workloads) and implementing integration patterns (APIs, messaging, batch/file interfaces).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and static analysis; familiarity with Git‑based workflows.
- Knowledge of secure software development practices and working within regulated environments (e.g., financial services).
- Experience partnering with globally distributed teams and coordinating work across multiple squads/programs.
