Fourlane is partnering with a well-established, family-owned commercial specialty contractor (drywall and metal framing) serving general contractors throughout Connecticut on their search for a Controller. Our client has built its reputation on strong client relationships, consistent project execution, and a collaborative, and low-turnover culture as many team members have been with the company for a decade or more.
Our client is looking for a Controller to take full ownership of the financial operations function as the company continues to grow.
About the RoleThis is a hands-on, high-visibility position reporting directly to ownership. You won’t just be closing the books, you’ll be a strategic financial partner, providing the forecasting, analysis, and foresight that helps guide company decisions. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction accounting professional ready to take full ownership of a finance function and grow into a broader leadership role over time.
Key Responsibilities- Own monthly financial statement preparation and month-end close
- Manage work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and revenue recognition
- Lead job costing and project profitability analysis
- Oversee cash flow management and forecasting
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Maintain banking relationships and financial reporting
- Coordinate with outside CPA on tax, audit, and year-end reporting
- Maintain accounting processes, internal controls, and financial compliance
- Partner with project managers and ownership on financial analysis and operational reporting
- Strong background in construction accounting; subcontractor/specialty trade experience strongly preferred
- Hands-on experience with WIP schedules, job costing, and construction-specific revenue recognition
- Familiarity with AIA billing and continuation billing a plus
- Experience with construction-focused ERP systems
- CPA a plus, not required
- A proactive communicator who can identify financial risks and opportunities before they become problems
- Comfortable operating with autonomy in a lean, close-knit team environment
- Strong Excel skills; cloud-based collaboration tools
- $120,000–$150,000 base salary, commensurate with experience
- Performance-based bonus tied to company profitability
