Location and Start DateFarmington Valley Transition Academy, Avon – Starting August 26, 2026 (26‑27 School year).
General DescriptionSchool Social Workers are mental health professionals who support students experiencing behavioral, social, or emotional challenges that impede academic progress. They collaborate with families, teachers, and community resources to promote academic and personal growth, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to CT State Code of Professional Responsibility.
Responsibilities- Maintain accurate caseload records and documentation.
- Develop clear goals, learning targets, and intervention plans for individual students.
- Design counseling lessons to facilitate skill transfer.
- Establish a therapeutic learning environment focused on engagement and inclusivity.
- Promote student independence and resilience through reflection, feedback, and goal‑setting.
- Utilize community resources and referral pathways to create comprehensive systems of care.
- Collect, analyze, and use assessment data to guide responsive instruction or support.
- Provide students with timely, specific feedback that fosters a growth mindset.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to develop consistency and transfer of student learning, including behavior management plans.
- Respond to immediate crisis situations as part of the team.
- Provide training and support for classroom teachers in social and emotional learning.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Participate in professional development and contribute to the learning of other teachers.
- Demonstrate professional responsibility through reliable attendance, timely work completion, organized and confidential record‑keeping, and ethical behavior.
- Must hold or be eligible for Connecticut State Certification in Social Work (Level 071).
- Consideration given to relevant and recent experience.
- References indicating strong academic and behavioral support skills, initiative, and learner mindset.
- Philosophy that aligns with the district's core beliefs.
- Life experiences that enhance contributions to the district and/or school community.
$56,018 – $114,029 per FEA contract, based on education and experience.

School Social Workers are evaluated by the Director of Special Services with support from the FVTA Program Director.
