Advanced Power Systems Engineer

A progressive engineering firm creating cutting-edge power and energy systems is in search of an Advanced Power Systems Engineer with a specialization in electrical engineering. This role offers the chance to work on innovative electrical power solutions utilized in diverse applications within advanced fields like mobility, industry, and critical operations.

This position involves hands-on engineering tasks for individuals who thrive on taking products from initial design through testing and production. The work environment is dynamic and collaborative, necessitating engineers who excel at solving intricate technical challenges, collaborating across various disciplines, and overseeing hardware development from start to finish.

• Conceptualize and develop power electronics systems, including converters, inverters, motor controllers, battery interfaces, and power distribution components
• Draft schematics, conduct simulations, assist with PCB design, and verify electrical designs through prototype testing
• Engage in hands-on laboratory activities like troubleshooting, debugging, hardware setup, repairs, and performance validation
• Address and resolve electrical, thermal, EMI/EMC, and reliability issues
• Work closely with diverse engineering teams, including controls, firmware, mechanical, and testing groups
• Support fast-paced prototyping and iterative development processes in a dynamic engineering setting
• Liaise with external suppliers, manufacturing partners, and third-party engineering resources to ensure successful hardware integration and quality control
• Assist with broader electrical engineering tasks, such as instrumentation, control systems, wiring structures, and integrated system development
• Lead continuous improvement efforts focused on performance enhancement, manufacturability, and long-term reliability
• Participate in system integration activities and provide development support throughout the product lifecycle

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field
• Solid background in designing and developing power electronics hardware
• Experience working with high-voltage or high-current systems, motor drives, power converters, or similar technologies
• Proficiency in hardware validation, prototype integration, lab testing, and failure analysis
• Sound grasp of PCB design aspects, thermal control, EMI management, and design-for-manufacturing principles
• Comfortable with hands-on electrical lab work and troubleshooting complex hardware systems
• Experience collaborating with manufacturers, suppliers, or external engineering partners
• Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within interdisciplinary engineering teams
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on driving technical challenges to resolution
• Adaptability and willingness to collaborate across various areas within a dynamic engineering environment

• Proficiency in developing lightweight, high-efficiency electrical systems for aerospace, defense, transportation, or related sectors
• Familiarity with hybrid power systems, generator setups, or ruggedized electrical platforms
• Knowledge of industrial communication protocols like CANbus, Modbus, etc.
• Experience with PCB design software such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, or equivalent tools
• Exposure to embedded firmware or low-level software development in C/C++
• Prior experience leading technical projects or coordinating activities across multiple engineering teams and external partners
