The Engineering Intern uses technical knowledge to provide support for new customer applications and sustaining current product designs. The Intern will aid the selection, evaluation, and modification of IMI products to meet our customer’s needs. This role applies knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and software components to recommend and design new products into various applications
Work EnvironmentOnsite in Farmington, CT
Pay range$28-32/hr
Within this range, individual pay is determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications relative to the job requirements. Base pay information is aligned with market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in designing and developing mechatronic systems combining electrical, mechanical, and software components.
- Support testing, validation, and troubleshooting of automated systems and devices
- Work with PLCs (e.g., Beckhoff, Keyence, Siemens) to develop and debug control logic
- Design and develop basic electronic circuits and PCBs using Autodesk Fusion (Electronics workspace)
- Interface sensors, actuators, and data acquisition systems for testing and monitoring
- Analyze system performance data and generate reports
- Help build prototypes and test rigs for product development or validation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, software engineers)
- Document designs, schematics, test procedures, and results
- Other duties as assigned
- Pursuing a Degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering
- Experience with PLC platforms (e.g., TwinCAT, Codesys, Siemens TIA Portal)
- Hands-on experience with PCB design tools such as Autodesk Fusion (Electronics)
- Knowledge of CAD tools (e.g., Solid Works, AutoCAD)
- Knowledge of LabVIEW.
- Exposure to industrial automation or robotics.
- Basic understanding of communication protocols (EtherCAT, Modbus, etc.)
- Strong technical curiosity and willingness to learn
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues
- Attention to detail in circuit design and documentation
- Coding experience (python, c++, ladder logic for PLC) is preferred
Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, coolants, and moving equipment.
