Role Overview :
The Cost Accountant serves as a strategic finance partner to Operations, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams, delivering accurate, data-driven manufacturing cost insights to support tactical and long-term decision-making. This role owns cost integrity and forecast accuracy for the Farmington, CT manufacturing facility and is responsible for translating complex operational and financial data into actionable recommendations that drive profitability, efficiency, and performance improvement.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of leveraging financial and operational data to identify trends, quantify risks, model scenarios, and influence cross-functional decision-making.
Work Environment : Onsite M-F with Remote Flexibility
Key Responsibilities :
- Product Costing:
Maintain accurate product costs by reviewing and updating BOMs, labor standards, and overhead rates; investigate discrepancies and ensure data integrity - Cost Roll & ERP Management:
Lead the annual cost roll and process ongoing cost updates in the ERP system, assessing impact on inventory and financial results - Forecasting & Modeling:
Build and maintain plant-level forecasts; analyze trends and run scenarios (volume, mix, cost changes) to support planning decisions - Variance Analysis:
Perform monthly reviews of standard vs. actual results; identify root causes and communicate actionable insights to improve margins - Material Cost Management:
Monitor material cost changes and purchase price variance; partner with Supply Chain to understand drivers and identify mitigation opportunities - Inventory Oversight:
Support physical inventory counts, cycle count improvements, and manage excess & obsolete reserves to ensure accurate reporting - Operational Support:
Work with Operations to analyze scrap, yield, and efficiency data; evaluate cost savings from process improvements and capital investments - Reporting &
Collaboration:
Prepare regular and ad hoc reports highlighting key cost drivers; partner cross-functionally to translate data into business insights
Competencies for Success
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 5+ years of experience in cost accounting or manufacturing finance (public accounting a plus)
- Strong analytical skills with experience in costing, variance analysis, and financial modeling
- Familiarity with ERP systems (JD Edwards a plus) and advanced Excel skills
- CMA preferred but not required
Pay range
: $100k - $110k
Within this range, individual pay is determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications relative to the job requirements. Base pay information is aligned with market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.
