Introduction
The State of Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) is a free‑standing, modern facility located on the UCONN Health Center Campus in Farmington, CT. The office is a state‑wide medical examiner system charged with the investigation of sudden and unexpected deaths that, by statute, fall under our jurisdiction. We are recruiting for a part‑time Forensic Technician 1 position, to work the following schedule: 28 hours per week (Monday‑Thursday 9:00 am–4:30 pm).

Responsibilities- Lift bodies and be exposed to strongly disagreeable conditions.
- Prepare bodies for autopsies and subsequent release to funeral directors.
- Assist in the performance of autopsies and collection of relevant information.
- Assist in removal of organs, collection of body fluids, and retention of specimens for special studies.
- Prepare fixative solutions.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of autopsy facilities and equipment.
- Assist in maintenance of appropriate records.
- Take fingerprints and photographs.
- Picks up decomposed and traumatized bodies.
- Takes inventory of, and makes receipt for, clothing and valuables.
- Maintain chain of custody of body and evidence from crime scenes.
- Handle the removal of bodies from hospitals and/or secured crime scene areas.
- May take and develop X‑rays.
- Perform related duties as required.
- One (1) year of experience in related work in a morgue, laboratory, hospital or funeral home.
- Knowledge of human anatomy, laboratory/surgical equipment, and terminology.
- Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to carry out written and oral instructions, follow prescribed procedures, keep technical records and prepare reports.
- One (1) year experience of related work in a morgue, laboratory, hospital or funeral home.
- Possession and retention of a Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
- Availability for calls on an emergency basis.
- Experience physically performing the lifting of bodies of various weights and sizes.
- Willingness to undergo periodic tests or immunizations for communicable diseases, as necessary.
Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel. Incumbents must be available for calls on an emergency basis.
