Introduction

The State of Connecticut, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) is a free‑standing, modern facility located on the UCONN Health Center Campus in Farmington, CT. The office is a statewide medical examiner system charged with the investigation of sudden and unexpected deaths that, by statute, fall under our jurisdiction.

Schedule
  • 28 hours per week
  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
  • On‑call and holiday coverage required

Forensic Technicians Work Under Supervision, and In This Role
  • Required to lift bodies
  • Exposed to strongly disagreeable conditions
  • Prepare bodies for autopsies and subsequent release to funeral directors
  • Assist in the performance of autopsies and the collection of relevant information
  • Assist in removal of organs, collection of body fluids, and retention of specimens for special studies
  • Prepare fixative solutions
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of autopsy facilities and equipment
  • Assist in the maintenance of appropriate records
  • May take fingerprints and photographs
  • Pick up decomposed and traumatized bodies
  • Take inventory of and make receipt for clothing and valuables
  • Maintain chain of custody of body and evidence from crime scenes
  • Handle removal of bodies from hospitals and/or secured crime scene areas
  • May take and develop X‑rays
  • Perform related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications - General Experience

One (1) year of experience in related work in a morgue, laboratory, hospital or funeral home.

Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year experience of related work in a morgue, laboratory, hospital or funeral home
  • Possession and retention of a Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Availability for calls on an emergency basis
  • Experience physically performing the lifting of bodies of various weights and sizes
  • Willingness to undergo periodic tests or immunizations for communicable diseases, as necessary
Special Requirements
  • Must possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • May be required to travel and must be available for calls on an emergency basis
Physical Requirements

Willingness to undergo periodic tests or immunizations for communicable diseases as necessary.

Working Conditions

Require lifting of bodies and exposure to strongly disagreeable conditions.
