Position: RCA Resident Care Assistant (DAY SHIFT)

Location:

Masonicare at Middlewoods of Farmington - Farmington, CT

Day Shift / 10 hrs/week (7am-12pm shift Sunday & Monday)

Summary of Position

Under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, assists residents with activities of daily living and personal care to maximize independence, freedom of choice, and quality of life.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists residents with essential activities of daily living and personal care based on age, needs and abilities:
    • Bathing
    • Dressing and undressing
    • Ambulating
    • Toileting
    • Assistance with meals and nourishment
    • Personal hygiene (shaving, dental hygiene, nail, hair and foot care)
    • Transferring using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
    • Care of ADL devices such as eyeglasses and hearing aids
  • Assists residents with instrumental activities of daily living:
    • Placing and/or receiving telephone calls
    • Performing light housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning bathroom, bed making and bed changes
    • Assisting with laundry
    • Escorting residents and coordinating internal transportation needs
    • Assisting with mail delivery and correspondence
  • Medication assistance: assist resident with self‑administration of medications through cueing only
  • Health maintenance and monitoring tasks:
    • Observe and report changes in residents’ physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to ALSA Supervisor or Director of Assisted Living Services as needed
    • Conduct room checks on resident rounds
    • Monitor for environmental safety hazards
    • Record incidents, errors or accidents and resident‑related events
  • Dining: assist with activities related to dining (escorting residents, set‑up and clean‑up, serving meals)
  • Activity program: participate in and support resident‑centered activity program
  • Emergency preparedness: respond to and act appropriately in emergency or disaster situations
  • Perform other duties as required
Leadership & Communication
  • Act as resident advocate at all times
  • Follow policy concerning confidentiality
  • Plan and complete duties with minimal direction from supervisor
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Use tactful, diplomatic communication in potentially sensitive or emotionally charged situations
  • Follow up with appropriate staff, resident or others regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns
  • Act as ambassador to guests and other off‑campus visitors
  • Maintain certifications required for employment
Administrative
  • Complete required written documentation concerning resident care and activities during shift
Other Duties
  • Show appreciation of the heritage, values and wisdom of residents and understanding of aging process
  • Attend and participate in staff, educational and committee meetings to update knowledge, techniques, guidelines and regulations
  • Assist with quality assurance programs
  • Assist with orientation and training of new staff
Minimum Qualifications

Education: Post High School Vocational / Specialized Training

Experience: On the Job Training

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current State of Connecticut CNA certificate; CPR Certification preferred.

Key Competencies

Read, write and speak English. Ability to interact with all types of individuals;
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet individual resident care needs;
Ability to read resident care plans, document resident condition and enter data onto appropriate logs/forms or enter information into computer database.
