The creation of the HHC System Support Office recognizes the work of a large and growing group of employees whose responsibilities are continually evolving so that we and our departments now work on behalf of the system as a whole, rather than a single member organization.

Position Summary- The design and implementation of network hardware and firewalls.
- Manages or consults on complex projects as the top level contributor/specialist.
- Provides direction and leadership to the Network Engineers on Network Engineering and Operations teams.
- Works closely with other technical resources such as Systems Engineering, Database Administrators, Integrators, and applications technical support personnel.
- May be responsible for scheduling the Network Engineering resources.
- May be responsible for monitoring selected project schedules.
The Senior Network Engineer demonstrates expertise in a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures relating to the field of Information Technology. The Senior Network Engineer relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned objectives. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected in this position. The Senior Network Engineer I reports to the Manager of Network Engineering.
This role is regarded as a technical expert responsible for representing ITS in project discussions at their early conception through completion. Specifically, The Senior Network Engineer I will work with the various business units’ representatives at the various hospitals or affiliates to gather their requirements for new upcoming initiatives to then translate those requirements into technical solutions. These solutions must meet the objectives of the business while ensuring compliance with ITS standards of security and manageability.
The Senior Network Engineer will be an active member of the IT Change Advisory Board, Downtime committee, the IT Configuration Control Board, and the IT Incident Review Board.
Key Areas of Responsibility- Lead and participate in multiple network initiatives aligned with institutional and departmental goals.
- Design, deploy, and support routers, switches, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, and associated network analysis tools.
- Own and maintain network architecture, standards, and design documentation, including configuration backups.
- Oversee proactive network administration, including upgrades, system hardening, log monitoring, and lifecycle planning.
- Serve as an escalation resource for complex network issues, ensuring timely resolution.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and provide technical vision within a healthcare environment.
- Mentor and assist in the development of Network Engineers at all experience levels.
- Coordinate project schedules, priorities, timelines, and resource planning.
- Provide training and formal project handoff to Network Operations.
- Partner with internal departments to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Assist in developing solutions and processes to reduce incoming technical support requests.
- Maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
- Participate in on‑call rotation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an IT‑related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on enterprise network engineering experience in a production environment.
- Strong experience supporting LAN, WAN, wireless, and firewall infrastructures.
- Hands‑on experience with Cisco and Arista switches and Wi‑Fi access points.
