Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse passionate about patient experience to join the Thoracic Surgery team at the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center. The PA/APRN will independently perform a full range of direct clinical care services in the operating room, inpatient hospital, and outpatient settings.

Full‑time, 40 hours per week with flexibility required for clinic and inpatient coverage. May require travel to off‑site locations.
Responsibilities- Provide a broad range of diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health‑care services including initial assessment and ongoing medical care
- Work independently as a member of an interdisciplinary health‑care team
- Takes medical histories, examines patients, orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests; formulates diagnoses and treatment plans and prescribes medications
- Document clinic, admission history & physical, progress notes, and discharge summaries; notify attending physician of significant problems
- Perform medical rounds to evaluate progress of hospitalized patients
- Order referrals to specialists as necessary
- Recognize and respond to emergency situations
- Convince and instruct patients in preventive care and health issues
- Perform minor surgical procedures
- Order medical devices as necessary
- Attend in‑service training programs and maintain licensure requirements
- Provide education to health‑care staff members
- Educate patients and guardians about disease processes
- Communicate significant changes in patient well‑being, treatment plan, or medication side effects to outside agencies and community providers
- Participate in practice building and community outreach
- Perform all related duties as required
- Considerable knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- Knowledge of different disciplines and disease states
- Knowledge of medications and interactions
- Physical assessment, counseling, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to perform invasive procedures
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work under pressure and formulate plans of care
- Decision‑making ability
- Registered Nurse and completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program or a Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Connecticut Controlled Substance license and DEA license
- Valid license to practice Advanced Practice Nursing or Physician Assistant in Connecticut
- Required certifications: NCCPA, BLS, ACLS
- Compliance with 100 hours CME every two years
- Possibility of travel
- First‑Assist experience for Physician Assistants and certification for Nurse Practitioners
- Thoracic Surgery experience
