About the RoleUConn Health is searching for a Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to join our patient-focused care team at our new, state of the art facility. Gain experience in a world-class facility with the highest level of technology, designed specifically with patient safety and experience in mind. This critical role is located in the Operating Room Unit at John Dempsey Hospital.
At the UCHC, this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the administration of anesthetics to patients in a variety of areas throughout the facility.

Full-time, 80 hours every 2 weeks, rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays. 30-minute unpaid meal break.
Examples of Duties- Prepares pre-anesthetic evaluations
- Prepares anesthesia plans, and delivers all forms of general anesthesia
- Performs emergency airway and resuscitation management throughout the facility
- Assists with quality assurance activities
- Assists with explaining anesthetic risks, benefits and options to patients
- Manage anesthesia care for a broad range of complex surgical procedures
- Consistently monitor and accurately record on the anesthesia record
- Provide patient care that is abreast of changing concepts and advancements in anesthesia
- Work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment to improve patient care services
- Estimates blood volume loss and administers blood products as appropriate
- Write pre/post operative medication orders
- Participate in clinical teaching
- Performs related duties as required.
- Considerable knowledge of medical and surgical diseases and the implications to anesthesia delivery
- Considerable knowledge of anatomy and physiology, fluids and electrolytes
- Knowledge of the side effects and interactions or all anesthesia drugs/cardiac drugs
- Knowledge of complex anesthesia equipment
- Skill in identifying and treating arrhythmias
- Skill with spinal/epidural placement
- Ability to work under extreme pressure in emergency situations
- Ability to insert arterial and peripheral venous lines
- Ability to practice with colleagues and peers utilizing a team concept
- Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
- Certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
- Incumbents in this class must be certified as Nurse Anesthetists and licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
- Must be eligible for licensure in the State of Connecticut.
- Incumbents must be Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified and must possess and maintain American Heart Association, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for health care providers.
