At UConn Health, this class is accountable for performing tasks of a skilled nature related to electrical work. Tasks performed will be in building maintenance, electrical and other areas as assigned.
This position will be required to provide services at multiple buildings on the UConn Health Campus including but not limited to;
Outpatient Pavilion, UConn Health Surgery Center, UConn Musculoskeletal Institute, Munson Road, ASB, UConn Health John Dempsey Hospital and University Tower located in Farmington, CT. This position may also provide services at off campus UConn Health satellite offices throughout CT.
Works under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISEDMay lead employees of the same or lower class, patients or students as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- In addition to trades tasks performed by lower-level maintainers, performs skilled tasks for a substantial amount of time (75%) as an assistant to a QCW-Electrician or other Trade's Staff, performs construction, maintenance and repair as an electrician, keeps records and prepares reports, performs related duties as required
- Considerable knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, materials and procedures of electrical work; knowledge of maintenance problems and their proper handling; skill in manual and machine operations of electrical work; interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to utilize computer software.
- Two (2) years of experience in building maintenance to include electrical work.
- Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of subject requirements in the electrical trade may be substituted for the General Experience.
- Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.
- Electrical knowledge and experience
- 1. Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.
- 2. A physical examination may be required.
- 1. Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to significant levels of dust, heat, noise, extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment and assaultive and/or abusive individuals.
- 2. The appointing authority may require completion of an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
Full time, 75 hours every two weeks, days, Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. , holidays are required as scheduled, in urgent/emergency situations must be able to work other mandated shifts, 30-minute unpaid meal break.
