Educational Technician – I, II, III

Resource Room, Adaptive Skills, Day Treatment, & Pre‑K

Job Goal(s): To assist in providing an appropriate and quality education for identified students with disabilities in special education programs.

Program Descriptions
  • Resource Room: Assist learners with skill deficits in below-grade-level reading, math, or executive functioning skills. Learners spend as much time as possible in the general education setting and are pulled for direct instruction in key areas.
  • Adaptive

    Skills:

    Section 28 BHP training preferred, but willing to train. The program works on functional life skills development for learners with more complex needs.
  • Day Treatment: Section 65 BHP training is preferred, but willing to train. The program works on behavioral and clinical needs in a therapeutic setting so learners can access their education.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED or an Equivalent
  • Applies knowledge and skills to complete assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Displays cooperation skills; shows the ability to work as a team member; promotes high morale; maintains sensitivity and confidentiality toward co‑workers, students, and families and program operations
  • Regularly present and consistently arrives at work or to assigned tasks promptly; follows appropriate leave policies.
  • Demonstrates the ability to utilize available information and experience, reason and reach sound conclusions, make mature, logical, timely decisions, exercise safe work habits
  • Shows genuine interest and concern for the quality of own work and goals of the program; respects students, co‑workers, professionals, and chain of command; adheres to policies and procedures
Certifications
  • Ed Tech certification from Maine DOE
  • BHP Certification: is preferred; the district will provide training
  • Safety Care Certification: is preferred; the district will provide training

Performance Responsibilities
  • Provides instruction as directed under the supervision of the lead teacher, in any special education program in the assigned school, or any school in the district based on the need for the day.
  • Informs special education and regular classroom teacher(s) of any problems or special information regarding individual students.
  • Participates in training programs as assigned.
  • Works with individual or small groups of students under the direct professional supervision of the classroom teacher or content area specialist.
  • Consistently observes, records, follows and implements behavior management and disciplinary strategies developed by the team.
